The first step

Record the time of failure and last known change. Check if the problem affects the entire page, one feature, or just a panel. This is a starting point for diagnosis, and not yet proof of the fault of a specific plug-in.

A critical error message can interrupt the entire website. Other times, the offer is available, but you can't log in or use a specific item. In both situations, a detailed address and description of what works are useful.

WordPress describes several possible causes, including: compatibility of add-ons, theme, PHP and available memory. Convergence with the update helps narrow down the examination. However, it does not justify accidentally deleting files or disabling everything on a running website.

Similar symptom. Various reasons.

Is there a public website?
If the failure only affects the panel, customers can still view the offer. The way work is carried out should take this difference into account.
Did you receive the WordPress error message?
In some situations, WordPress sends recovery mode information to the administrator. The lack of messages does not rule out a failure, because email sending itself may also be faulty.
Is there a copy before the change?
You need its date and scope. A restore can undo subsequent entries or data, so the decision isn't just a matter of clicking "go back."

Without changing files and settings

What you can check yourself

  1. Keep the message visible and the address where it appears.
  2. Check messages sent to admin without sharing recovery links publicly.
  3. Note the update or hosting change if you know of it.
  4. Determine with the supplier whether a copy from before the failure is available and what condition it covers.

What solutions make sense

First, it is determined what works, what accesses are available and what can be secured. Information about the error and the last change helps you choose further diagnostics. The repair may concern the compatibility of a specific add-on, theme, PHP or server resources.

Restoring a copy requires checking its date and more recent data. Returning the home page alone is not enough if the form, gallery or order processing is still not working.

After the work is done

This is how you will know that the topic is proven

  • Affected addresses and functions are operational.
  • You can enter the panel if it was the one affected by the failure.
  • The form and other key page activities were checked.
  • The state of the data after any backup is restored is known.

Prepare a description for reporting

Complete what you know. “I don't know” is also an answer. You can copy the text or save it as a file.

This field does not send anything. Don't enter passwords, recovery codes or customer details. After refreshing, your changes may disappear.

Would you like to pass the matter on?

To start with, all you need is an address, a symptom and the moment you noticed it. We will arrange the rest if necessary.

Technical basis

The guide helps you sort out the symptom. It is not a diagnosis of your installation. The details depend on the tool used and its version.
