I updated the content, but the website still shows the old version

Write, publish and cache are different stages. Find out how to determine where a price list, phone or text update has stopped.

Start here

The first step

Compare the same public page without logging in and in a different browser view. First, determine whether the change has been published and whether everyone sees the same status.

The owner changes the number or price list and the customer still sees the previous data. Sometimes the correct page is not saved, other times the browser or intermediate service shows an earlier version.

It is also worth checking repeated places: header, footer and separate buttons. Changing one number in the content does not necessarily update all links.

Similar symptom. Various reasons.

Is the change saved and published?
The draft preview and public address may show different versions. Keep both addresses for comparison if you have them.
Can another device see the new content?
The difference helps narrow down the cache problem. It does not yet justify deleting the entire page's data.
Is the old information in one place?
The footer phone number, button and offer text can be set separately. Collect all the places that should match.

Without changing files and settings

What you can check yourself

  1. Check the correct public address without logging in.
  2. Compare the result in a private window or on another device of your own.
  3. Write down where the new version is and where the old one is.
  4. If you have your own panel, check the publication status and the appropriate page.

What solutions make sense

Recognition covers the path from editing to publishing and the layers that store the previous version. You need to know which tool is actually responsible for the visible content.

After the correction, we check all agreed places. In the case of a telephone, both the visible number and the number saved in the link count. The instructions for subsequent changes should indicate where to introduce the update and how to check its effect.

From observation to the next step

Step by step example

Model scenario. It shows the way of reasoning, it does not describe the completed order.

New price in the editor, old price at the client.

Let's say you improved the price of one service. There is a new amount in the editor, but the customer still sees the previous amount.

  1. The change is in the editor, but it is not known whether it has been published.

Saving a draft and publishing are different states. Garbage will not publish a change you haven't made.

Next step: First, check the registration status and the exact address of the edited page.

  2. Publication is confirmed, but public views still vary.

It could be a cache issue, another content source, or a display condition. The word "cache" alone does not resolve the cause.

Next step: Compare the same address without logging in and on the other device. Write down where each version is visible.

  3. The price on the page is new, but the price in the offer or file is still old.

This information may be repeated in several places.

Next step: Check every agreed location of the price, including the downloadable price list. Acceptance checks should confirm a consistent result. The instructions should explain where to make future changes.

After the work is done

This is how you will know that the topic is proven

  • The correct information is in the agreed places.
  • The public view corresponds to the published version.
  • Related links checked.
  • You have simple instructions to check the next change.

Prepare a description for reporting

Complete what you know. “I don't know” is also an answer. You can copy the text or save it as a file.

This field does not send anything. Don't enter passwords, recovery codes or customer details. After refreshing, your changes may disappear.

Would you like to pass the matter on?

To start with, all you need is an address, a symptom and the moment you noticed it. We will arrange the rest if necessary.

Technical basis

The guide helps you sort out the symptom. It is not a diagnosis of your installation. The details depend on the tool used and its version.
