The first step
First, determine the message route. Spam in your inbox does not prove that someone has taken over the website, and blocking the form will not stop emails sent directly to your address.
Advertising messages may arrive via a form, comments or regular e-mail. For the owner, the effect is similar, but the repair depends on the place where they are received.
There is a need to limit abuses while maintaining efficient contact for customers. Additional security should also be tested by a person who simply wants to inquire about the service.
Similar symptom. Various reasons.
- Does the message follow the layout of your form?
- Repeating topic and fields may indicate a specific channel. Information about the message template will be useful, without copying the entire sender data to the report.
- Does spam appear publicly on the site?
- Comments and extraneous advertisements in the content are a different situation than a private inbox. If a site publishes unknown links, separate initial assessment is needed.
- Does security also retain customers?
- If valid reports are rejected, spam restriction may have interrupted contact. Fewer emails alone are not enough evidence of improvement.
Without changing files and settings
What you can check yourself
- Assess the scale: a few messages or a wave making it difficult to find customer inquiries? Just an approximation.
- Send your own short TEST message and confirm if it's still coming.
- See if unwanted content appears publicly on the site or just in your inbox.
- Note whether messages are structured as one specific form.
What solutions make sense
The solution depends on the channel: form settings, protection against automatic reports or comment moderation. If messages bypass the page and go directly to the address, changing the form will not stop them.
Cost, dependence on an external service and the convenience of a real customer all come into play when choosing protection. You also need to determine how to report the correct message that was rejected in error.
After the work is done
This is how you will know that the topic is proven
- The correct contact test takes place after changing the protection.
- A period was established to compare the number of unwanted messages before and after the change.
- Checked whether security is not blocking customer reports.
- You know what channel the solution protects and what its costs are.
Prepare a description for reporting
Complete what you know. “I don't know” is also an answer. You can copy the text or save it as a file.
This field does not send anything. Don't enter passwords, recovery codes or customer details. After refreshing, your changes may disappear.
